- NHS Bursary. The NHS Bursary is arguably the most generous form of NHS funding for students in the UK. But, unfortunately, it's not as widely available as it used to be.
- NHS Learning Support Fund (LSF) For students studying nursing, midwifery and allied health professional (AHP) courses, you may not be eligible for the NHS Bursary.
- Social Work Bursaries (SWB) For social work students, there's specific funding that helps with study and living costs, and it doesn't need to be paid back.
- Funding for students in Northern Ireland. If you normally live in Northern Ireland (i.e. you're from there and haven't just moved for uni) and you're studying a healthcare course, you can receive some additional forms of funding during your degree.

Information for students and higher education institutions about the NHS Bursary Scheme rules that apply for the academic year 2023 to 2024.
The NHS Bursary Scheme new rules (12th edition) are for the academic year from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024.
They apply to:
•medical and dental students (bursary-eligible study years)
•continuing nursing, midwifery and allied health professions postgraduate students who started their course on or after 1 August 2017 but before 1 August 2018
•continuing students on dental hygiene and dental therapy courses (included in the capped numbers commissioned by Health Education England or NHS England) who started their course on or after 1 August 2017 but before 1 August 2019

The application form should take 30 – 45 minutes to complete on average. You do not have to complete the application in one session. You can save the progress of a partially completed application form after each ‘Check your answers’ screen by selecting ‘Save and continue’.
To apply for an NHS Bursary, register for an NHS Bursary account or sign in to your existing account. Your application and supporting evidence must be submitted within 9 months of the start of your academic year.
Aug 12, 2024 · Undergraduates can apply for an NHS bursary from the fifth year of a five- or six-year course. Before then, apply to Student Finance Wales for loans for your tuition fees and living costs. Graduates can apply for an NHS bursary from the second year of a graduate-entry accelerated degree.
