It is roughly 640 kilometres (400 mi) south of the main island of Kyushu. Okinawa is connected to nearby islands near a land bridge: Katsuren Peninsula is connected via the Mid-Sea Road to Henza Island, Miyagi Island, Ikei Island, and Hamahiga Island.
Yonaguni, the westernmost island, is actually closer to Taiwan than mainland Japan. The islands are well connected by air and sea, making it easy to get around Okinawa. Naha is the main transport hub, and Naha Airport has many domestic flights serving mainland Japan, as well as international flights from Asia.
