The Void is how Voyager should have been from day one, instead of the TNG rehash we got. If the entire show was like this episode, Voyager would probably be the most beloved series by the fanbase. Being in the Delta Quadrant had long since meant almost nothing. They had unlimited crew, torpedoes, shuttles, food, and energy. The only tension left around the premise was whether they'd die of old age before they got home. In the void, it was all tension. And the fact it came in the last season is kind of telling to.

These ships steal from and kill each other to survive. When new ships are sucked in, the waiting tigers pounce. It's survival of the fittest, and the meanest.
