Virginia Slims Chance (née Thompson) is the daughter of Louise Thompson, granddaughter of Barbara June and Wilfred Thompson, mother of Jimmy Chance and wife of Burt Chance and one of the main characters in Raising Hope. She is portrayed by Martha Plimpton.
Jimmy tells her they still live in the same house and tries to get her to come visit and get to know Virginia, but Louise tells him that she chose this life and doesn't want to change anything about it, and that she already has all the family she needs.

After he and Lucy have a one-night stand in his van, the entire Chance family meets her, and to Jimmy's delight, they all like her. However, while Lucy is using their restroom, the family finds out from the news that she's a serial killer, and Virginia knocks her out cold with the television.

After returning home, Jimmy changes Hope, which leads to him and Virginia throwing up on her. After bathing her, he puts her to bed, but she refuses to sleep and cries all night. Eventually, Virginia and Burt come in to soothe her to sleep with a song.
