Aug 9, 2020 · I can ease the halyard by at least 150 mm before the arm drops out of engagement. It works really well as the foresail halyard runs parallel to the forestay, which in turn means that the sail can be easily hoisted by hand because the only change in direction of the halyard is around the top sheave. Jan 3, 2010 · You will most likely have to adjust you main halyard when the wind picks up no matter what material you use. The luff of the main will stretch as dacron stretches when the wind picks up, also when you crank on the backstay and/or sheet the main hard.
Draft position in a genoa is controlled primarily with halyard tension. This works a lot like the cunningham -- more tension moves the draft forward and less moves it aft. Be sure to put a reference mark on each halyard (as described in Preparation) so you can compare and duplicate settings.

Hoist the sail initially with minimum (hand tight) halyard tension. Next, sheet in the proper amount for your chosen point of sail. Look for any horizontal wrinkles emanating from the luff, and tension the halyard just enough to remove them.
