Do you ever find yourself asking God to “just save all the lost people”? If you have ever wanted to have some specific, biblical ways to pray for those who are still lost in darkness, here are seven simple ways to posture yourself before the Father and ask for Him to move:
- Pray that believers will be brought into their lives. I am currently reading Just Walk Across the Room, by Bill Hybels. In the introduction, he shares a story of a time he shared the message of grace with a total stranger – and the stranger did not accept Jesus as Savior at that time.
- Pray that they will develop friendships with believers, friendships that will provide an open door for sharing the Gospel. While believers are not to have close, intimate relationships with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14), Jesus hung around with sinners and tax collectors frequently (Mark 2:13-17).
- Pray that the hard ground of their hearts will be tilled up by experiences to receive the word. God often uses our experiences to soften our hearts to His word (Jonah 1-2).
- Pray that the believers in their lives will exhibit the character of Christ in love, patience, and grace. Pray that they will live according to the Word of God so that the message of their lives does not contradict the message of their words.
- Never Forget the Plight. Never forget that people who do not obey Christ forfeit eternal life and go out into eternity under the wrath of God. John 3:36, “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him.”
- Meditate on Christ’s Sufficiency. Meditate often on the complete sufficiency of death of Christ to cover the sins of absolutely anyone who repents and believes in him.
- Meditate on the Spirit’s Convicting and Drawing Power. As you ponder the sufficiency and efficiency of the cross to cover the sins of all who believe, think also on the power of the Holy Spirit to convict sinners and draw them to the Savior (John 16:8; 6:44).
- Think of Your Joy at the Conversion of One Lost Soul. Think of the joy you would have over one sinner who repents and turns to Christ through your prayer and witness.
