Dec 2, 2019 · Each year, soldiers and officers are given an annual report, much like a school report. If you meet all the criteria for promotion and your report is good enough, you will be recommended for promotion and selected to promote by a board of selected senior soldiers/officers.
You can typically expect to reach the rank of Captain after 3 years' commissioned service. There are some roles, which see you join at a more senior rank. These are usually professionally qualified roles, such as medical roles or lawyers.
Core pay is linked to rank, with a set number of increments at each rank accessed by personnel on an annual basis, on a date linked to promotion to that rank. On promotion personnel will receive a minimum 2% increase in pay.
