- Read the Bible in Context. The first step to understanding the Bible is to read it in light of its surrounding context. If you’re stuck on the meaning of a single verse, read the entire paragraph that surrounds it.
- Learn Who the Main Characters Are. Each section of the Bible has different figures that are central to the main storyline of the Bible. There are, of course, many more people in both the Old and New Testaments.

- Christ-centered. Next, we must never forget the Bible’s “big story.” Specifically, it is crucial to understand that the whole Bible is about Jesus Christ—who he is and what he came to do.
- Reverent. We must also read the Bible reverently if we are to understand it properly. The Bible is God’s Word to humankind, revealing heaven’s great plan of salvation.
