  1. Google search operators are special characters and commands sometimes called “advanced operators” or search parameters that extend the capabilities of regular text searches. Search operators can be useful for everything from content research to technical SEO audits.

    • Find related sites. related:[website] Let’s say you’ve found a site that you want a link from, or maybe you just want to collect as many similar sites for some competitor research.
    • Find Pages to Add Internal Links. Site:[website] keyword. This is one of my favorite ways to help improve SEO. And thanks to Google search operators, it’s pretty quick to do.
    • Search Content on a Specific Site (And Find Any Indexation Errors) site:[website] You can use the site to find something from a specific website and limit your search to that single site.
    • Find Exact Matches. "[search term]" If you put quotation marks around a word or phrase, the search results will only contain results that match exactly the word or phrase in the quotes.
    • Find possible indexing issues. Eyeballing the results of a site: search for your website can uncover potential indexing issues. For example, if we combine it with the filetype: operator, we see that this 3D printing company has quite a few PDFs indexed
    • Find and analyze your competitors. Use the related: operator to find websites related to yours, which are often competitors. You can then use other search operators to investigate these sites further.
    • Find guest post opportunities. Most people find guest posting opportunities by searching for “write for us” pages in their niche. For example, if you have a website about coffee, you can search for something like coffee intitle:"write for us" inurl:write-for-us
    • Find resource page opportunities. Resource pages curate and link to the best resources on a topic. This makes them great link prospects if you have a fitting resource.

    • (Quotation Marks): Using quotation marks is a simple way to specify an exact phrase match in your Google search. Your search results will include pages with the same words as in the quote.
    • (Minus Sign): The minus operator helps exclude a specific word from your search results. Place it directly in front of the word (without any space) that you're trying not to include in search results.
    • (Asterisk): This operator works as a wildcard and will be replaced by any word or phrase. Example: most important SEO * can return “most important SEO techniques”, “most important SEO strategies”, “most important SEO tip”, etc.
    • (Double Dots): Use this operator to specify a range of numbers. For example, it can be quite helpful when searching for products within a certain price range.
