- Create a List of Literary Elements You Want to Teach. The first thing that I do is create a list of literary elements that are covered in the Common Core Standards that I want to focus on within this lesson.
- Choose Exciting Action Packed Short Stories to Teach Literary Elements. In order to capture your reader’s attention, you want to pick stories that have a lot of action, a twist in the end of the story, or an uncomplicated story plot to teach these elements.
- Model Finding Literary Elements with the Most Difficult Story (2 Days) Now that we have our list and our story, we are ready to start teaching.
- Ease Them Into Literary Analysis Writing ( 1 Day) Since my goal is to introduce students into writing literary analysis, we focus on theme and writing for our last day working together.
