  3. Aug 19, 2019 · The idea for the Silly Symphonies came from Disney’s first in-house composer, Carl Stalling, who suggested Disney launch a series in which music could be applied more cohesively than in the Mickey shorts in which scores were subject to the demands of plot and gags.

  4. Stalling left Disney after two years, at the same time as animator Ub Iwerks. He had reportedly completed the scoring of about 20 animated films for Disney. Finding few outlets in New York, Stalling rejoined Iwerks at the Iwerks Studio in California, while freelancing for Disney and others.
