While the market for neon lighting in outdoor advertising signage has declined since the mid twentieth century, in recent decades neon lighting has been used consciously in art, both in individual objects and integrated into architecture.
Since the discovery of neon in 1898 and the subsequent inventions of neon signage, humans have been evolving and improving neon lighting. In this post, I wanted to explore the history of neon and its evolution from a mystery gas to modern LED neon lighting.

Georges Claude, a French engineer, chemist, and inventor, created the first neon lamp in 1902 and by 1912, the first commercial neon sign was sold in Paris. The first neon signs sold in the United States went to Packard car dealership in Los Angeles.
