According to official reports, Bolívar died of tuberculosis on December 17, 1830, at age 47. Some people believe Bolívar was assassinated. While living in Madrid from 1800 to 1802, he was introduced to Enlightenment philosophy and married María Teresa Rodríguez del Toro y Alaysa, who died in Venezuela from yellow fever in 1803.
