The Malayali people (Malayalam: [mɐlɐjaːɭi]; also spelt Malayalee and sometimes known by the demonym Keralite) are a Dravidian ethnolinguistic group originating from the present-day state of Kerala in India, occupying its southwestern Malabar coast.
Its history can be traced back to the student gatherings initiated by Shri V K Krishna Menon in the late 1920s, which laid the foundation for Kerala Samajam in the 1960s. Kerala Samajam was first registered as a friendly society in 1974 and became known as the Malayalee Association of the U.K (M.A.U.K).
