John McDouall Stuart (7 September 1815 – 5 June 1866), often referred to as simply "McDouall Stuart", was a Scottish explorer and one of the most accomplished of all Australia's inland explorers.

  3. John McDouall Stuart is memorialised in the name of the main highway from Port Augusta to Darwin. The crossing didn’t come easily though – he had several failed attempts before finally completing the journey in 1862, nearly blind and very sick. He died less than four years later.
