Eye (/ ˈ aɪ /) is a market town and civil parish in the Mid Suffolk district, in the north of the English county of Suffolk, about 4 miles (6 km) south of Diss, 17.5 miles (28 km) north of Ipswich and 23 miles (37 km) south-west of Norwich.
You won’t find many Italianate Town Halls in Suffolk, but Eye has its own, built in 1857, with a clock tower used for locking up local criminals! This is an attractive market town with many unusual and interesting buildings and some great places to stay, so don’t overlook it.

Visit Suffolk and the historic Eye Town. The Town of Eye was recorded in the Domesday book of 1066 and still boasts the Medieval charm. Eye Castle is one of the few surviving motte-and-bailey castles from the early Norman period. Built shortly after the Norman conquest of England in 1066.

Historic market town, which grew up around a Norman motte and bailey castle – its medieval walls and later. 19th C. folly remaining. There are panoramic views from the top. Victorian flint/brick town hall and magnificent.
This charming market town has many unusual and captivating structures certainly worth visiting. The village of Eye (named after the Old English word for ‘island’) would have been surrounded by water and marsh, with just St Paul and St Peter’s Church and Castle on higher ground.
