The story is a play mode with 7 chapters and 60 levels. Each level has 5 challenges to complete and an elite mode is unlocked when all challenges are completed. Story mode features zombies ranging from 1-14 in regular and 5-18 in elite mode.
To run with your companion you need dog food which you can get form loot box or story runs. Event mode unlock at 1-5 which containt many powerful guns and pets for limited time. Don't worry if you can't farm it yet, they will come back again from time to time.
