A lot of people have been wondering about the permanence of death in the Dream SMP universe, and why deaths even matter if they can just respawn, so I’d like to propose my theory/headcanon on it.
To me personally, Dream SMP used to be a safe space of funny block men that played war, but with no consequence to anyone dying. Now Tommy is getting manipulated and slowly broken by Dream, is barely himself anymore, and is suicidal as well.

I think you only die when you're ready for it in the SMP, tubbo respawned after his execution because he wanted to keep on living, he had so much more to do. But willbur was ready with his story, he finished his goals, he'd done everything he had to.
