As others already said, the DLC does not replace parts of the base game, it just adds new stuff. But I can see where the misunderstanding is coming from. Dead Cells has about 20 levels (called "biomes"), but they are spread across different paths, you only ever see 7-8 of them in a single run, depending on the path you take.
Definitely explore the base game first. The DLC doesn’t really change the concept of how to play the game, but instead adds new areas, weapons, enemies, and bosses. Play through the game a couple times, and if then, you still like it, then maybe buy a DLC and go from there
I've been wanting to play this game but could only afford now the base game (discounted price). Should I go buy the game now then buy the DLC later on or should I save and wait for the next discount period to play the game with all the DLC?
Try the game out for a wee bit, see how you like it and if you do, I’d highly recommend the DLC’s as they add a lot to the base game that can improve your enjoyment immensely. However this is nothing wrong with just the base game!
