Nov 30, 2021 · In Treviso the lights went on on the “Loggia Incantata”, one of the most anticipated attractions of Christmas 2021. Housed in the Loggia dei Cavalieri, a symbolic monument of the city, this year it hosts the garden of Santa’s house complete with reindeer, elves and furry bears.
The original loggia in the center of Treviso dates from 1277. During the ages it was restored, partially rebuilt after the Allied bombings in 1944 and eventually took its present form at the end 1980s. What I like about loggias is they are open and easily accessible structures.

The Loggia is an beautiful example of Romanesque Treviso, influenced here by Byzantine architecture. The loggia was decorated with frescoes in two stages and the layers of plaster are now mostly overlaid. The first decoration was probably made between 1276 and 1277.

Dec 23, 2023 · The roof of the open loggia is supported by stone columns, and the interior was originally covered in frescoes. These were overlaid by later frescoes in the 1300s, of which some remain. The loggia is still used for public events, and is one of the most photographed attractions in Treviso.
