- Sadly, this will not be the case. According to Masamitsu Hidaka, a former director and storyboard artist on the show - Misty will never return as a main cast member. While he stated that cameo appearances were fine, Misty would not become a full-time companion to Ash ever again.

Misty is a friend of Ash who debuted in the first episode of Pokémon the Series.
In the first episode, she meets Ash after fishing him out of a lake while he was trying to get away from a flock of Spearow. Ash then takes Misty's bike from her in order to escape the Spearow which is then inadvertently wrecked by Pikachu's Thunder Shock. Misty then tracks down Ash and follows him around on his adventures until he can pay her back, although she eventually forgets about the bike and becomes one of Ash's closest friends in the process. However, at the end of their journey through the Johto Region, Misty's bike has been completely repaired, and she leaves to return home to Cerulean City to resume her duties as a Gym Leader due to her sisters leaving for a cruise for three weeks. She has since spent much of her time at the gym even after her sisters returned from their cruise, partly because she didn't trust their capabilities of running the gym, though she nevertheless found time to visit the Mirage Kingdom in Hoenn as well as briefly reaccompany Ash at the start of his Battle Frontier quest, as well as visit Alola. Eventually, after watching Ash win the Pokemon Monarch title in Pokemon World Coronation Series Masters Eight Tournament, she became inspired to resume her own journey, even leaving the gym in the care of her sisters.
Misty has short, red hair tied into a side ponytail with blue elastic rubber band. She has green eyes and fair skin. She wears a yellow tank top that reveals her midriff, red suspenders, denim shorts that stop at her thighs and red high top sneakers with yellow lining and white laces. Her belly button is not usually drawn, but it is visible when she wears two-piece swimsuits. Her most common swimsuit is a red bikini, which she wore six times.
She later maintains her original outfit in her return in Alola, Kanto in Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon. In this series, her belly button is shown the entire time. Beneath her outfit is her blue strapless bikini which was worn by her counterpart in both games, Pokémon Red and Blue. In When Regions Collide!, Misty has a Key Stone hidden at the back of her ponytail.
Misty made cameo in Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series wearing her blue strapless bikini which she was seen relaxing at the pool in the Cerulean City Gym along with both her Psyduck and her Gyarados while watching the final battle between Ash and Leon at the World Coronation series. She also maintains her main outfit at the end of the Ultimate Journeys: The Series upon meeting with Goh at the Cerulean City Gym.
In the episode SS016: Luvdisc Is a Many Splendored Thing! in Pokémon Chronicles, her primary top is replaced with a yellow sleeveless hoodie shirt and she also wears a slightly longer and looser blue shorts, a small white belt with a pink buckle and reddish-brown penny loafer shoes worn with white socks. Her swimsuit in Pokémon Chronicles is also changed to a green bikini.
In her mermaid form, she gets longer hair.
Her new outfit in Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire consists of a yellow tank top with a dark blue button, a dark blue collar, yellow shorts and orange shoes. She wore this outfit when she met up with Ash and Brock in The Princess and the Togepi and A Togepi Mirage! and again for three episodes when Ash returned to Kanto from Hoenn. She also wore this outfit in The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon along with a red drawstring bag.
As Misty is the youngest child in her family, she can sympathize with other youngest children like Mikey, Sakura, and Max.
Misty has a slight inferiority complex, mostly due to her three older sisters Daisy (oldest), Violet (second-from-oldest) and Lily (third-from-oldest), who formed the group, "The Three Sensational Sisters" (their synchronized swimming group), and refer to Misty as the "runt" or the "weaker one". This complex diminishes over time as Misty grows closer to them. Until Misty resumed her duties as the Cerulean City Gym Leader, her sisters were the ones who directly ran the gym, although when Ash came along to get his Cascade Badge, it was Misty who battled him for it, explicitly referring to herself as being one of the Gym Leaders during this instance.
Misty specializes mainly in Water-type Pokémon, which are her favorite type, but she's had other types, and she also deeply admires Lorelei, an Ice-type Pokémon Trainer. Misty aims to become a world-class trainer, and her well-trained Pokémon reflects her aspirations of becoming so. Her least favorite type of Pokémon is Bug-type Pokémon, as she has a deep-rooted fear of them, except for the kinds she sees as "cute" or "pretty" (i.e. Butterfree and Ledyba). However, Misty's fear lessens over the course of the series — but not to the point where she's totally gotten over it, as shown in A Real Cleffa Hanger, Alola, Kanto! and Alola, Alola!.
As the series continues, Misty gradually shows herself to be more mature, kind and sensible. For some reasons, Misty would restrain Brock from girls, often pulling him away by the ear and reprimanding him for his behavior. This trait continued with the friends who join Ash on his journeys after she parted ways with him, following their journey through the Johto Region.
The name Misty originates from the word "mist".
Her Japanese name, Kasumi, is literally 霞 (kasumi, mist). However, it may also include 海 (umi, ocean), 水 (mizu, water) and 泉 (izumi, fountain).
Misty is a great fisher, good at making fishing lure versions of herself for her fishing and an amazing battler, due to being a Gym Leader.
