Ground Zeroes is basically the prelude to MGSV, the events setup the story for MGSV so it's kind of important in that respect. That said, if you ever want to go back to GZ after MGSV, you might feel very limited.
Ground Zeroes was super hated on and called an over glorified demo That was mainly due to the price point which is fair. Doesn't change the fact that GZ was a better "MGS" experience than TPP
