My 4th Gen Echoes have 3.5mm aux that you can switch from in to out using the settings in the app. Logically there should be no diffrence between the 3.5mm jack on the 3rd gen and the echo flex. The better sound comes from better speakers/amp in the device and the jack should be upstream of that.
