Nov 3, 2021 · BRAIN ACTIVITY. In order to determine which of the two sources, screaming our laughter, would be more energy efficient, we need to determine precisely how the energy is being generated and captured.

Nov 2, 2021 · Monsters, Inc. and its (rightfully) beloved 2013 follow-up Monsters University posit that monsters use children's frightened screams to power their own world. Because, you see, beyond human reach exists a thriving metropolis — or, rather, "Monstropolis" — where monsters of every size, shape, and color live, work, and eat sushi.

- Types of power
Power is a form of energy used to energize the Monster World's electronics and a major element in the Monsters, Inc. storyline. There are multiple types of power known, the most well known of which is Scream Power, used by three major companies, Scare Masters, Scream Industries, and Fear Co. Monsters, Inc. formerly used Scream Power, before the events of the film which resulted in the discovery of the more powerful Laugh Power, now used by Monsters, Inc. but not by other companies. Power is universally stored inside yellow power canisters.
In the Monsters at Work season 2 episode "The C.R.E.E.P. Show" more types of power are revealed during the eponymous C.R.E.E.P. Show event, such as exercise power, burp power, and even fart power.
Scream power
Scream power is the main type of energy used in the Monster World. A conspiracy was made by Henry J. Waternoose III and Randall Boggs to extract Scream power from children using the Scream Extractor in the Monsters, Inc. film, but the plot was broken by Mike and Sulley in the process of bringing back Boo to her home.
Laugh power
Laugh power was discovered to be more powerful than Scream power when Boo had to live with Mike and Sulley in an apartment and when Mike's accidents made her laugh, she ended up overpowering the power system of the nearby area. In "The C.R.E.E.P. Show" a showcase for laugh power was set up in C.R.E.E.P. Booth 60 1/2. It was half of a normal booth's space, so the sign on the top read "It's Later!" due to having to be folded up in the middle. Mike took insult in having to go to a space called "Alternate Energy And Other Hare-Brained Ideas" for the energy booth.
Exercise power
Exercise power, apparently labeled "Spin-ergy" in the booth, is the first new alternate power shown off in "The C.R.E.E.P. Show" episode. It is claimed that 16 hours of running in a monster sized hamster wheel generates enough energy to power a house for a whole hour.
In monsters University we learned that it is possible to power door in the human world by generating enough energy. We also know laughter generates significant more energy than screams. How are doors not just powered all the time during parties and what not and a significant group of people are together laughing?
In Pixar's Monsters films (Monsters Inc. & Monsters U), the monsters make special doors, which connect to an Earth like ours. They then use these to harvest scream energy from Earth children by scaring them. It's clear that the Monsters planet isn't Earth, these are magical/technological doors that get them from the Monsters' planet to Earth.
Sulley 's discovery that children's laughter had far more power than their screams was something like the Monster World discovering fusion; near limitless energy that wasn't in the least diminished by our world's cynicism. That most of the Monsters' jobs got much more pleasant afterward was a very big bonus.

Keep the kids afraid, keep the monsters afraid, and you gain power. The point of the movie is to show that it's all a big lie. Love, joy, respect, cooperation, etc is true power.
