Don’t use regular rotors

Dec 16, 2023 · Vienna horns have Vienna valves! Personally, I would call them a type of Vienna horn, as so many of the other design features are the same — only the valve section is different — and historically these rotary instruments existed alongside the Vienna valve instruments.

Jun 5, 2022 · It has been said that the Viennese players continue to use an instrument that is a bridge instrument between the natural horn and the modern horn. It certainly occupies a unique space in modern orchestral playing, and is central to the sound of The Vienna Philharmonic.
The Vienna Horn (Fig. 1) is used by all top orchestras in Vienna with two exceptions: the RSO (Radio Symphony Orchestra) which performs mainly contemporary music and the VBW Orchestra (Vereinigte Bühnen Wien) which plays exclusively musicals use depending on the performed music common double horns and only sometimes the Vienna Horn.
Viennese Horn. In the world of music the Viennese horn is known for its particularly colorful tone. In modern orchestral practice, however, it is a rarity – only very few European orchestras still use it (e.g. the Vienna Philharmonic).
