      • Mirage places a much smaller emphasis on skill trees than the last few Assassin's Creed games. When it comes to expertly sneaking past guards, Basim's tools are the real star of the show, so I recommend focusing on unlocking more as your first priority. You're given one tool unlock for free, and I recommend grabbing the sleeping darts first.

    • Smoke Bomb. The smoke bombs are an essential tool to have in combat and something you'll want to unlock a slot for right away, and make sure to have one with you at all times.
    • Throwing Knife. The classic throwing knives are still your best friends in Assassin's Creed Mirage. You get them immediately after you begin your training in the Hidden Ones' fortress, Alamut Castle, and you'll be using them a lot when it comes to the game's stealth-heavy approaches.
    • Blowdart. Blowdarts are an assassin's staple across the games. While they were in Origins, the tool hasn't been seen in either Odyssey or Valhalla, so it's nice to have them back.
    • Noisemaker. Making a surprise comeback in Assassin's Creed Mirage is the noisemaker distraction tool, which debuted in Assassin's Creed: Revelations as the Cherry Bomb and was also in Arno's toolkit in AC Unity during the French Revolution.

    • Smoke Bomb. How to unlock: Can be obtained from Ibn Musa in the Assassin Bureau after gaining a new Tool slot from the Trickster skill tree. The reason Smoke Bombs stands out from its competition is because of just how versatile this Tool is since it can be used in more or less any situation Basim finds himself in.
    • Noisemaker. How to unlock: Can be obtained from Ibn Musa in the Assassin Bureau after gaining a new Tool slot from the Trickster skill tree. The Noisemaker will prove very useful from the moment players retrieve it from Ibn Musa, being the best gadget in the game for catching the guard's attention and leading them away from an area for Basim to continue his trespassing.
    • Trap. How to unlock: Can be obtained from Ibn Musa in the Assassin Bureau after gaining a new Tool slot from the Trickster skill tree. Since it is essentially a slightly quieter proximity mine, Basim's Trap will incapacitate any enemies who get too close, but this does mean the player will need to be strategic about where they place it to make the most out of it.
    • Throwing Knife. How to unlock: Unlocked by default after unlocking the Tool wheel. Probably the most recognizable weapon in the entire series next to the Hidden Blade, the Throwing Knife is a deadly projectile that, in the past, could take enemies out from what felt like miles away, but the range is a lot shorter this time around.

How to Unlock and Upgrade All Tools

By KBABZ, Callum Williams, Scott White, +7 more

Sometimes, situations don’t lend themselves well to simply being solved with Basim’s sword, dagger, or hidden blade, and for those moments, reaching for a handy-dandy tool may be just what you need. As synonymous as the Hidden Blade is to the Assassin’s Creed series, the franchise has long included a bevy of items to supplement the equipment of the characters, from throwing knives to poisons. Mirage is no different. This tools guide will explain how to unlock and upgrade all tools in Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

After you have become a full-fledged member of the Hidden Ones, you will unlock the “Tools” tab in your menu - at the start, you will only have access to the Throwing Knives and the Torch. Once you progress far enough through the main story and complete the mission that tasks you with killing “The Slaver”, Ibn Musa at the Assassin Bureau will allow you to unlock one additional tool. From there, the remaining tools can be unlocked through the Trickster skill tree, spending two skill points each for Extra Tool Capacity 1, 2, and 3.

Once a tool is unlocked, by using components, steel, and leather, you are able to upgrade and unlock new features for said tool. Speaking to Ibn Musa again will allow you to reset and choose new skills for the tool at no additional cost, which allows you to tailor your tools to whatever will work best for the mission or contract you are attempting to tackle.

Below is a list of all the tools Basim can unlock and upgrade throughout his journey across Baghdad. Looking for a particular tool? Click the links below to jump to…

    • Throwing Knife. Throwing Knives can be incredibly efficient at killing enemies quietly from a range. Pairing this tool with the right upgrades and skills can make players even more deadly in stealth.
    • Blowdart. The Blowdart is another very versatile tool that can make both lethal and non-lethal stealth situations a lot easier. This tool can incapacitate and even kill enemies from a range while also firing off multiple darts quickly to take care of a few close-together guards.
    • Smoke Bomb. The smoke bomb is a very versatile tool in that it can be used both offensively and defensively. When large groups of enemies can quickly overwhelm you, or a non-lethal escape is needed, the smoke bomb will conceal Basim and give you more than enough time to escape and get a head start on the pursuing guards.
    • Noisemaker. The noisemaker is better suited for less quiet approaches to stealth. While it can be an effective way of distracting and even weakening guards, it does have a higher chance of altering other nearby guards to a disturbance.
