I loved writing about all those fascinating women, but Anne Boleyn was always my favourite.
Anne wears an informal gown, possibly one given to her as a gift by Henry. No finished portrait after this drawing is known. Holbein’s skill at portraits meant he was called on to paint a number of Henry’s queens, as well as to provide pictures of potential brides for Henry’s information.
