Sep 20, 2024 · According to the Bible, Enoch and Elijah are the only two people God took to heaven without their dying. Genesis 5:24 says, “Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”
The Hebrew writer tells us that Enoch didn’t experience death, which tells us he never died. The words ‘he could not be found’, suggest that people were for looking for him in the same manner as the prophets looked for Elijah, but could find him, 2 Kings 2:17.
Enoch did not die but was “translated”…that is, “transferred or transported”…to Heaven by God because God took him. Enoch did not experience death and carries this testimony in the written Word for us today: that he pleased God (he did walk with God).
Elijah, one of God's most powerful prophets, did not die but was simply taken to heaven. Malachi 4:5–6 speaks of his return. Some believe Enoch and Elijah are the two witnesses described in Revelation 11:3–12 and were taken in preparation for this role.
By faith, Enoch was transported away and he did not taste death, neither was he found, because God transported him away; for before he was to transport him, there was this testimony concerning him: “He pleased God.”
In other words, God took Enoch to heaven without his passing through the gates of death. It was, of course, a miracle. For death must take place for sinners to enter the perfection of heaven.
