Jan 23, 2022 · Although Edmund Reid, better known as Eddie, has now passed away but his legacy and works will be remembered. He was one of very few black violinists who have graced the stages in orchestras throughout the United Kingdom. Reid, 85, died on December 13, 2021 after a short illness.
Dec 13, 2021 · Edmund Reid was appointed MBE in 2020. In 1959 he married Gretta Barrow, a fellow student at the Royal Academy of Music, and together they recorded Havergal Brian’s Legend for violin and piano. She survives him with their two sons and two daughters.

Retiring from the Metropolitan Police in 1896 aged 49 due to ill health, he became landlord of 'The Lower Red Lion' public house in Herne in Kent in March 1896, giving that up in October 1896 to set up as a private detective. In 1903 Reid moved into No. 4, Eddington Gardens at Hampton-on-Sea.
