Oct 13, 2022 · Chegg, a textbook rental and tutoring website that reported over 5.3 million subscribers in August, has stopped providing student information to colleges and professors in an effort to protect student privacy.
More often, I've heard that professors will check Chegg if the same wrong answer keeps coming up and they find that is the source. I'm aware of sources that students use to cheat and I design my materials the best I can, but I don't distribute inaccurate information to try to fool students.
While many companies would refuse to release student PII absent a court-issued subpoena, Chegg does not support cheating and therefore made a business decision year ago not to require a subpoena but to instead accept an official letter from the institution.
