Warning: full SPOILERS ahead for Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 5 “The Bells”!
Game of Thrones’ Battle of King’s Landing ended up being an entirely one-sided affair as Daenerys Targaryen used Drogon to make quick work of the Iron Fleet and the city’s anti-dragon defenses before laying waste to the city and its people -- citizen and soldier alike. As the chaos unfolded, several principal characters met their end.
Here’s who died in the episode.
Cersei met her end in the arms of her brother Jaime. The pair tried to escape through Tyrion’s secret passageway, but the exits were all blocked thanks to rubble falling as a result of Daenerys’ dragon siege. All of the horrible things Cersei has done have largely been done for her children, so in her final moments she could do nothing but hope for her unborn child to somehow survive. Many fans theorized it would be Arya who would assassinate Cersei when she face-changed her way into striking distance, or that it would be Jaime who finally put an end to his sister based on the Valonqar Theory, but in the end it was the cave-in of King’s Landing's lower levels that finally killed her along with her brother. Though the falling rocks technically killed Cersei, it was Daenerys who caused it by savagely attacking King’s Landing in order to get revenge on Cersei both for betraying her and for beheading her best friend and trusted adviser Missandei.

Jaime had his chance at a happy ending of sorts when he finally made love to Brienne of Tarth, but he found himself inescapably addicted to his sister Cersei, which wound up being his downfall. Once Jaime saw that all of the exits were indeed blocked and there was no escape, he spent his final moments soothing the woman he loved and holding her tig...
The Hound died what is possibly the most epic death on the entire show when he finally confronted his brother -- now an unfeeling, undead juggernaut -- on a stairway to nowhere as the castle crumbled around them and a dragon flew overhead and the sun shone brilliantly behind them and their swords sent out shockwaves with each clash. Just as it look...
Not much of the man who was Ser Gregor Clegane survived the transformation into whatever Qyburn did to him. He’s simply existed as a silent, unstoppable enforcer for Cersei Lannister. But boy did it make for one hell of a Cleganebowl showdown.
Speaking of Qyburn, he died rather gruesomely when he tried to command the Mountain to protect Cersei, only for the Mountain to disobey for the first time and brutally throw him into the wall, smashing his head open. Yuck. Turns out the one thing that could override Qyburn’s command was the Mountain’s hatred for his brother.
Once Daenerys realized Varys had betrayed her, she immediately arranged an execution by Dracarys for the Master of Whispers. Varys has long said he has only acted in the best interest of the Realm and its people, and though he may be dead, it looked like he was sending out some letters about Jon’s claim to the throne, so if they reach the intended ...
For as much talk as there was about the Golden Company, they ended up meaning nothing in the final battle. Harry Strickland was toasted along with his troops at the start of the battle, and then Grey Worm finished him off.
Though we didn’t see the life leave Euron Greyjoy’s eyes, we’re going to assume he bit the big one unless shown otherwise. He’s an incredibly selfish pirate, so it didn’t surprise us that he tried to go out in a blaze of glory, either by killing Jaime Lannister or being killed by Jaime Lannister. The two had a bloody fight with lots and lots of punching and stabbing, but it was Jaime who won the fight by stabbing Euron in the belly.
