May 15, 2017 · Adeel Akhtar has made history after becoming the first non-white best actor winner in the Bafta awards' 62-year history, according to the BBC.
He was also nominated for a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor for his role on Channel 4's Utopia, as well as a British Academy Film Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Ali & Ava. Akhtar received critical acclaim for his performance in BBC One's Sherwood, receiving the British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actor.
