Lake Suwa is the source of the Tenryu River which flows south through Iida, and is famous for its spectacular gorge, where you can take a boat ride and be serenaded by a singing boat woman. Lake Suwa is 759m above sea level and is the 24th largest lake in Japan with a circumference of just under 16km.

Lake Suwa is a 10 mins walk from the JR station. It is essentially an onsen town. We took a walk by the Lake and spotted the Lake Suwa-ko Geyser Center where you can enjoy the sight of a dynamic geyser and the "Nanatsu-gama," or the spot where seven hot springs gush. (check out the video).
Whether walking, cycling, or jogging, the lake provides a relaxing backdrop. In spring, the lake is surrounded by beautiful cherry blossoms, while summer sees it lit up by fireworks above. In warmer months, lake activities include pleasure cruises, amphibious bus tours, fishing, and more.
