Mar 20, 2020 · An understanding of the tides is important with gulling on the Thames – low tide is essential for sites where foreshore is needed to concentrate loafing birds, with high tide better for feeding sites (and general photographic opportunities, too).
Around the UK, there are mostly two high tides and two low tides each day: this is called a semi-diurnal regime. Other parts of the world have a diurnal tidal regime with only one high tide and one low tide each day. The difference in height between high tide and low tide is called the tidal range.
Apr 8, 2019 · At least 80 Yellow-legged Gulls were tallied; most were juveniles, with adults the second-commonest age class (as you'd expect). Otherwise, the birding was quiet, with a migrant group of three Ringed Plovers and a Dunlin arriving high from the north just about the only other noteworthy sighting.
Dec 13, 2020 · High spring tides can also cause problems for river traffic, specially if their timing is slightly out. Last year, no less than three Thames clippers, were trapped temporarily unable to pass under Westminster Bridge.

If you know the time of high tide it is possible to work out roughly where it will be the following day although using tide tables makes it simple. If high tide is at 13:00 today then it will be at about 13:50 tomorrow and 14:40 the following day.

Sep 26, 2022 · As a general rule, if you are fishing for whiting or flounder from the beach then be sure to fish at low tide, as you will reach deeper water more easily. If you prefer to use a float to pick out bass from between the rocks, then fish at high tide, because most rocks will then be under the waterline.
