They are puffy fruited and lightly spiced sweet yeasted buns . . . you split them in half through the middle and then pop them under a grill, so that they get toasted on the cut side only . . . and then you spread them with oodles of cold butter . . . at least in most of England at any rate.

Before toasting, use a sharp bread knife to slice a clean cut through your teacake, especially if using a toaster. A clean cut means you’re less likely to have chunks of teacake break off and burn in the toaster.

  5. Jan 17, 2017 · I went for these Toasted Teacakes – a lovely treat when served warm with lashings of butter! I have of course shared our Cinnamon Buns recipe before but having mastered a recipe with fresh yeast, I’m keen to see how I can go about improving these also.

They are ready to come out of the oven when deep golden brown, and only get more delightful as they dry out slightly on the following days, and prepare to be toasted.
