Richter's syndrome. Richter's syndrome can develop if you have chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). Doctors also call this Richter transformation. It is a rare complication of CLL. Richter's syndrome means that the CLL changes (transforms) into a type of lymphoma. It usually transforms into a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).
Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) is a cancer of the B-lymphocyte cells (B-cells). Richter syndrome (RS), also called Richter transformation, is the development of an aggressive lymphoma in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). Richter syndrome can affect around 0.5% of all CLL patients per annum giving an overall risk of 10–15%.
