Aug 26, 2021 · A new report makes clear there are vast gaps in local youth services, with 2.2 million young people living in predominantly rural areas consistently overlooked.
In many rural areas the voluntary and community sector has stepped in to try and plug some of the gaps left by a loss or lack of local authority funded services. However, a cross-party inquiry8 on youth work found that there are virtually no youth services across large parts of the country, in rural areas.
Many young people in rural areas have little access to youth services. According to the National Youth Agency, 20 youth service spending in rural areas is around 25% lower per head than in urban areas.
