If you are looking for a great story that differs heavily from the original, consider Rocket Edition. If you are looking for a great story that keeps in line with the original, consider Dark Violet. If you want a Firered with a bit more difficulty and a bunch more features, consider Firered Omega.
Is there a fire red romhack with no random encounters? That would be so cool. I mean if we could see wild pokemon as blobs in the grass, at least.
Pokemon Firered Omega has just that I believe. Also check out Firered Generations. But I personally like Omega more. Omega is a Drayano hack in the same vein as Sacred Gold/Storm Silver or Volt White/Blaze Black. Entire dex is available, with grass being in cities even.
This is a hack that I work on off-and-on every few years. The TLDR is that it: - Includes all mons - Has a bunch of QOL improvements - Has extra content both during the main storyline and postgame - Is (usually) faithful to the original game enough that I don't feel like I'm playing a hack
