   Dec 28, 2020 · The original (default) strings that come with the GS Mini, I think, are Elixirs Nanoweb PB 13-56. I'm still not quite used to the 13's although my string action is quite low. It does sound louder than 12's but I feel that the sustain that comes from 12's is better than the 13's. It is also less comfortable for the fingertips.

   I agree with the rest of those voting mediums. They work well and are Taylor's recommendation for the GSM. However, what brand of string to use is a very personal choice. The Elixir's that Taylor puts on the GSM stock, and that many people use, sound very bright to me - almost "tinny" on the GSM.

Although the GS Mini comes stock with Elixir Phosphor Bronze Medium, I would also try lights if you think you may prefer lights or if you are a fan of light strings.    Dec 10, 2020 · I would try 80/20 and then PB mediums before I tried lights on a GS Mini. My go to strings for my 3-year old GS Mini Koa are Elixirs Nanoweb PB 12-53 or D’Addario PB EXP 16 (12-53). Just bought D’Addario PB EXP 17 (13-56) recently and will string them soon just for a change to see if I like the louder and thicker tone.

   Apr 4, 2012 · I think if you use strings with less tension, like lights, you might get more string buzzing. The mini comes from Taylor with Elixir medium gauge 80/20 nanowebs. I changed mine to Elixir phosphor bronze mediums, and I like the less-bright sound. I have also used D'Addario medium PB's (EXP17), and I liked those too. Greg.
