This need arose during the Jacobite Rising of 1745 and is where its rather military-sounding name comes from, as the Board of Ordnance (the defence ministry) was tasked with surveying the land.

That’s instant access to 607 maps to view, print, or download to your phone with your subscription. That’s really good value in my eyes and well worth a couple of quid a month.
Apr 27, 2022 · Yes and No. - Yes – If you plan your route before you go on OS maps, something like the GPS training free OS route planning software. - Then you can plan on 1:25k or 1:50k maps and this will just be overlaid on the Topo Active maps. I did this on my ‘walk and talk’ with the Garmin eTrex 32x in the Scottish Borders.
