Jul 2, 2022 · For dramas, I pick them only if they have a rating of above 6.5 on IMDb AND a rating of above 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. For action films, I am a little bit more liberal, allowing a rating of above 5.5 on IMDb and above 35% on Rotten Tomatoes. For pure comedies, I ignore ratings altogether and choose based on the story line or the cast.

IMDB is incredibly unreliable because bad movies are bombed with high scores from the people that were involved in the making of the movie or people who benefit financially from views. It's unfortunate because for a long, long time IMDB was the go-to website for honest movie ratings.

Nobody knows the exact details, but the service assigns more importance to some sources than others. Like the other two sites, Metacritic also includes a separate user score, which does not influence the critic score.
