For pure comedies, I ignore ratings altogether and choose based on the story line or the cast.

IMDB is incredibly unreliable because bad movies are bombed with high scores from the people that were involved in the making of the movie or people who benefit financially from views. It's unfortunate because for a long, long time IMDB was the go-to website for honest movie ratings.
