  2. May 7, 2007 · I agree that Selmer (or Yani/Yamaha) is more of a modern/fusion sound, but I find that a Conn can sound great with a more projecting mpc as it has this BIG quality that stops the sound thinning out too much - kind of a modern v retro thing.

  3. Sep 20, 2010 · Basically these are both very good horns and definitely play in a similar fashion, the Super takes the cake for me on clarity and keywork, but the sound of the Conn is definitely larger and more chewy.

Nov 29, 2021 · Conn-Selmer are still used by many pros, and they have recently come out with some newer models and innovations on their top-line horns (e.g. Conn 88HNV, and Bach A47) although it would be interesting to see how many of their sponsored artists play on older models vs. new production horns.

  5. Jan 31, 2018 · A real 88H is a real 88H, even the Conn-Selmer 88Hs. It's a shame though, the parts are good but the assembly and finishing is just not up to par. Used 88Hs, Elkharts of vintage are getting older, worn and require more upkeep as they push half a century old and beyond.
