- “Alone” (Am Universum, 2001) “Am Universum” is not one of the essential Amorphis albums, actually it’s usually considered one of their weakest. I think it’s a decent album.
- “My Kantele” (Elegy, 1996) A heavenly folk and progressive metal mish-mash that has some of the strongest vocal melodies in the Amorphis discography.
- “Black Winter Day” (Tales from the Thousand Lakes, 1994) No best of Amorphis list is complete without “Black Winter Day”. Like most great Amorphis track it has a bit of everything: darkness, catchiness, melodies, emotion.

Silent Waters is another stage in their doom metal digression. Although this album is notably more metal and heavier than past albums, this evolution could have been expected, looking closely as their 2006 effort Eclipse. The opening track ‘Weaving The Incantation’ is arguably the best on Silent Waters.

Tales From the Thousand Lakes finds Amorphis incorporating Finnish folk music, a full-time keyboard player, ‘clean’ vocal parts, and progressive rock influences into a style of metal better described as atmospheric and melodic folk-influenced doom/death metal, with the growled vocals of Tomi Koivusaari remaining the only real link to death metal.
