Many Malaysians have been raving about a cheap, multipurpose shoe known as 'adidas kampung', of late. Do not be mistaken. Despite what the name of the shoes suggest, they're not actually made by popular global brand, adidas, and instead, these are made-in-Malaysia footwear.
Adidas Kampung is a generic name for cheap black rubber shoes that are usually made in Malaysia. The first time was introduced by Tuan Lakai Adang, a member of the Police Field Force on September 19, 1974, in Keningau, Sabah. Being made 100% out of rubber, they are waterproof, easy to dry, and thus ideal for trekking in tropical weather.
