After the Revolution of 1848, in difficult times, Prince Barbu Stirbey (1799-1869) is elected Reigning Prince (“Domnitor”) of Tara Romaneasca, and seeks balanced relationships with the Ottoman Empire, the Empire of Austria-Hungary and with the Russian Empire, thus setting the foundations for an independent state.
The main tourist objective in Buftea, Stirbei Palace, is a stunning piece of art built in the Tudor Style. It is open to the public on weekends. You can take your family and take a walk in the beautiful park and admire the swans seen on the large lake.
Jul 1, 2024 · Only 20 kilometres away from Bucharest, in the town of Buftea, there is a family property, the Ştirbei Domain, with a palace in the middle. Initially designed as a turret with two exit tunnels, the 1850 construction underwent many important changes over time.
Domeniul Stirbey is, basically, a large park by a pond, with a castle like mansion built in XIX century and a chapel. The park, prepared to entertain the festival goers, was kind of magic, with lots of romantic lights, long chairs, an open air cinema, food vans, coffee trucks, hammocks here and there and even a fake moon balloon.

The Ştirbey Domain comprises an assembly of natural and historical monuments, part of the national patrimony. It belonged to the family of Barbu Ştirbey, prince of Wallachia, who, when designing the Domain, successfully combined the traditional values with modern innovations.
