  2. Oct 4, 2019 · In both the Old and New Testaments, God calls on advocates to speak boldly, whether or not they believe they’re qualified. Each of the six advocates below combines their faith in God with a unique advocacy strategy, and God uses them all powerfully to bring about justice.

    • Christian advocacy multiplies our ability to care for people in poverty. The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.
    • God calls us to advocate. The Bible talks a lot about justice. We’re supposed to seek justice (Isaiah 1:17), loose the chains of injustice (Isaiah 58:6) and “let justice roll on like a river” (Amos 5:24).
    • The Bible shows us what advocacy can do. Nowhere in the Bible does it say, “email your Senator,” but we do see some amazing biblical examples of advocacy.
    • Christian advocacy has a long history of creating change. People of faith are by no means new to advocacy. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. used scripture and Christian principles to speak out against racism and violence in the 1960s and helped lead the way for new anti-segregation laws to be passed.

    • Deuteronomy 16:20. “Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the LORD your God is giving you.”
    • Job 5:15-16. “He saves the needy from the sword in their mouth; he saves them from the clutches of the powerful. So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.”
    • Psalm 41:1. “Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the LORD delivers them in times of trouble.”

  4. Jan 4, 2022 · The Bible says that Jesus is an Advocate for those whove put their trust in Him: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1).

  5. Firstly, to be an advocate we need to be aware of the situations of others and to feel compassion for them (Nehemiah 1:1-4 and Exodus 2:11). How can we make time to be good listeners and observers? Who might God be prompting you to help? The right preparation.
