I think fans sometimes forget that with both Anakin and Dooku, they don’t join Sidious because they like him or believe in the Sith mission. They join him because he is a resource to them and their personal missions. They see Sidious as a source of power and means to accomplish their own goals.

Dooku did eventually plan on betraying Sidious like a responsible Sith apprentice, so wouldn’t it have been smarter to keep an ace up his sleeve? Considering that Ventress lived anyways, this was an even greater missed opportunity.

Dooku and the CIS was kept in the dark about Darth Sidious plans. You easily see this by looking at their motives. Both the CIS and Dooku originally joined this fight because they wanted to break up the Republic, Dooku because he saw it as obsolete and corrupt, the CIS because of the massive economic oppurtunities that would mean.
