The Stone Angel is a novel by Canadian writer Margaret Laurence. First published in 1964 by McClelland and Stewart, it is perhaps the best-known of Laurence's series of five novels set in the fictitious town of Manawaka, Manitoba.

The Stone Angel is told through the eyes of 90 year old Hagar Currie Shipley (Ellen Burstyn), an elderly lady living with her grown son Marvin and daughter in law Doris in Vancouver in the 1960s.
STONE ANGEL is the story of the last week of elderly Hagar’s life (played by Ellen Burstyn) as she reflects about the choices she has made and tries to come to peace with her past. Hagar’s son, Marvin, wants to put her in a nursing home, but she refuses.
In a series of vignettes, The Stone Angel tells the story of Hagar Shipley, a 90-year-old woman struggling to come to grips with a life of intransigence and loss. The themes of pride and the prejudice that comes from social class recur in the novel.
