Here are the Best Medieval films ever, in my humble opinion. This list is based on various criterias, like box-office performance for some movies, critical success for others. It is also based on my own tastes.
- The Romance of Astrea and Celadon (2007) Director: Eric Rohmer. Though best known for his contemporary tales about the anguishes of modern love, director Eric Rohmer was always fascinated by the era of courtly romance and the later Renaissance.
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) Directors: Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam. The Monty Python team’s trip back to the days of King Arthur revels in absurdities that spoof the lordly conventions of the period epic.
- El Cid (1961) Director: Anthony Mann. One of the great directors of Hollywood’s Golden Age, Anthony Mann spent the 1940s making shadowy noir thrillers, the 1950s making psychology-tinged westerns, and – come the 1960s – expanded his scope into weighty historical epics.
- Marketa Lazarová (1967) Director: Frantisek Vlácil. All but unknown to English-speaking audiences until released on DVD in the UK a couple of years ago, this Czech saga comes with a reputation as one of world cinema’s best kept secrets.
12 titles. 1. Arn: The Kingdom at the End of the Road (2008) 128 min | Action, Drama, Romance. 6.6. Rate. The Knight Arn is sent on a last mission against Saladin. He has to win this battle, before he can go home to Sweden, and finally marry his Cecilia and start a family. But the peace back home is threatened by the Danes.

Medieval warfare films. Films about warfare and chivalry throughout the Middle Ages, simple as that. There may be fantastic and mythological elements but no pure fantasy works. As always in temporal and non-evaluative order and work in progress.
