I think there's a lot of speculation about this. I think it's a possibility that he could be alive, but I don't think that should happen. It would destroy Oralie and Sophie to find out that he was alive this whole time after they grieved his death.
It's obviously assumed she died (cant remember if she did - that's not a real victim name)... but there was always the "what if she's alive" / where is she" feeling for the rest of the movie.
